What It Does
Transports fatty acids into mitochondria where they're burned for energy — essentially the shuttle that turns fat into fuel. L-Carnitine supports heart muscle energy, helps with weight management by improving fat metabolism, and protects against certain forms of heart disease.
What You’ll Notice
Pets on weight-loss diets supplemented with L-Carnitine lose more fat while preserving lean muscle mass. It's included in many veterinary weight management and cardiac support diets. Some breeds with a genetic predisposition to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) benefit from supplementation alongside taurine.
Sources & Notes
Overweight pets on calorie-restricted diets, and breeds prone to DCM (Boxers, Dobermans, Great Danes). Found in red meat, especially lamb and beef. Many weight management pet foods include added L-Carnitine.
